In my opinion, the proper things to journal varies for each individual trader.
Perhaps the most important question a trader can ask himself about a journaling process is “Will I do this on a consistent basis?” If a journaling method is too cumbersome, inconvenient, or complicated chances are the trader will not journal consistently.
Trade journaling is like keeping a food log to find out what food you are allergic to. It will only help you when you do it on a consistent basis. You want to be sure to journal all trades, not just the good or bad ones. Otherwise you’ll miss out on many important lessons and insights.
Having access to a well maintained and consistently updated trading journal is extremely helpful when it is time to working with your trading coach. Being able to quickly reference all the trading and trader details helps you and your coach to efficiently analyze and solve a myriad of trading issues.
I also highly encourage each trader to review their journal themselves. Many times this helps you identify your own challenges. Put an appointment in your calendar every month or every quarter to carefully review your journal entries.
There are many, many benefits to keeping a trade journal but WHAT should you include? Watch this episode to learn my trade journaling secrets!
