There are virtually a limitless number of things that a trader could potentially focus on.
If a trader focuses on too many things, they will not succeed.
Nor will a trader make progress if they don’t focus on the right things.
Those right things are the things that are going to make the most difference in your trading.
Not those things that are likely to feel good in the moment or protect a trader’s ego.
As human beings we have feelings, and we want to avoid certain feelings. We want to protect our ego, and we naturally want to avoid work. Ultimately we all want to avoid painful emotions find an easier, faster ways to do things.
Our natural tendency as human beings is to avoid uncertainty and go towards immediate pleasure. There are a lot of detrimental things that we can do in trading that will give you that pleasure, or a relief of pain, as well as many ways to frame things in a way that protects your ego.
Pleasure is important, but realize that the majority of the things that bring short term immediate pleasure are damaging, and therefore unimportant. And focusing on those unimportant things are the things that are going to be damaging to your trading. They’re the things that are going to prevent you from being successful as a trader.
